The Centre of Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics (HULTIG) of the University of Beira Interior (http://hultig.di.ubi.pt) is advertising a 9 months scholarship (980 euros/month) for an outstanding Master student in Informatics, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics in the domain of the construction of Medical Ontologies. The selected candidate will work on the MEDON project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. The work will mainily consist in developping new research in the fields of Lexical Semantics and Ontology Construction with a motivated and motivating team of Senior Researchers and PhD Students. In particular, the candidate will have to work on two interlinked topics:

1. Extraction of medical terminological resources from medical corpora.
2. Construction of prototype-based ontologies by investigating multi-view clustering and sequential clustering using level of generality and similarity features.

The HULTIG Centre is principaly concerned in developing high reasearch in the domains of Natural Language Processing, Text Mining, Information Retrieval and Knowledge Engineering. It fosters inter-disciplinary research and applied research. A great deal of National and International Instituitions are working in partnership with the HULTIG Centre. In particular, this research will be carried out with the University of Evora (Portugal), University of Orléans (France) and University of Caen Basse-Normandie (France).

To apply, the interested applicants must send a Curriculum Vitae, the list of subjects and marks of their Bachelor and Master degrees and a letter of motivation by email to the Head of the Centre of Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics, Prof. Gaël Dias at ddg@di.ubi.pt.
